Mary’s Obedience

Luke 1:38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

I think it’s amazing how Mary was obedient to God, she was willing to do as God would have her to do knowing it would be hard. Not being married and being pregnant in those days the penalty for this was death. God had a plan for Mary and she trusted that plan even when in her mind she had everything to fear. Everyday I think of the things that God asks me to do that are not nearly as hard that I neglect to do out of fear, selfishness, or laziness. Mary’s willingness to do as God asked of her was a selfless thing, she put any personal feelings aside to allow God to fulfill His will for her life and for Jesus’ walk on earth. I pray that God would help me to not let my own feelings and self get in the way of His will.

Luke 1:26-33
The New King James Version
“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[b] the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”

38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.
