What Are You Willing To Give Up For God ?

The question that I have for you today is “What are you willing to give up for God ?”. God has given us an amazing gift and that gift is forgiveness through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It is a gift that is given us freely and a gift that is for everyone and anyone who is willing to receive it. We all want to be loved. At the end of the day when we are done all of our work, chores, and anything else we must get done in a day the only thing we want deep down in our hearts is Love. We want to be Loved and to love. For many it is something that they spend thier whole lives in search of. Usually trying to find it in relationships or other things, all the while rejecting the One who Is Love, God.

God is Love and all that He asks is that we come to Him, mess and all laying it down before Him in repentance and He will take you in. Why ? because He Loves you. God loves you so much that He gave (up) His only Son Jesus Christ so that you could be saved from eternal separation from Him. God had to give His own Son, but He was willing to do it because of His love for us. And the reason He had to do this is because sin separated us from God, and it is only through Jesus that we can be found blameless in God’s eyes. Just as God had to sacrifice to have a relatinship with us, there are things we have to sacrifice to have one with Him. But in the end these sacrifices are worth it and are good for us. Love takes sacrifice.

Many times in our lives God will ask us to give up something to follow Him (just as Jesus did His disciples) and yet we tend to not be willing to do that. We are not willing to give up our sin, a situation, a job, a relationship, or even a person who is hindering our walk with God. We hold on to these things because we feel like God is trying to take something from us or sometimes because we just love these other things too much. Our hearts are after these things instead of the best God has for us. Sometimes we like our sin, our possessions, etc so much that we are willing to let them destroy us. We cling to them when God asks us to remove them.

We’re like a person who has an illness and we go in search for the one who has the cure. We search until we finally find the doctor who has the remedy, but when the doctor tries to give it to us we fight because there is a part of us that likes the illness. That sounds absurd doesn’t it ? To think that someone who is sick would fight a doctor who has everything they need to get well. As humans we do that all the time. We are the patient and God is the doctor, He has the cure for our sickness that is sin and yet when He gives us instruction on how to get better, we fight Him every step of the way.

Let’s face it, sometimes we like our sin, our posessions, our job, our relationships, or our situations even if they are hindering us, we are not willing to give them up, to give them fully over to God so that He can restore us and mold us like clay into the person He created us to be.

When God asks us to give something up it is not to take something from us that we need, but instead removing something that is as a sickness that is deep within us. So today I ask you: What has entangled your heart today ? And are you willing to give it up ?

What are you willing to give up for God ? What are you willing to give up to have a close relationship with God ?

On our own we can not give up these things, it is only in Christ that we have victory over these things. So today, with a willing heart ask God to help you to give up the things that are hindering your growth in Him and He will help you.
