It is not enough to merely look at the heart of a man, but to love the man despite the undesirable things you might find there. We are not called to love the undesirable things but called to love the man. Just as Jesus loves all of us despite our shortcomings we are to love others. God sees us for who we really are and loves us anyway. It’s not an easy thing to do to love someone even if they’ve hurt you and it’s something I need God’s help with, but with Jesus I can overcome unforgiveness, bitterness, anger, and anything that gets in the way of loving others. This is my prayer today, that God help me be a good representative of the love of Jesus to all men. Loving those who bless me and those who curse me, giving me a heart for others and a heart like His.
1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)
7 But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
Matthew 5:43-48 (NKJV)
Love Your Enemies
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
